Why?
We strongly believe that scientists should not limit themselves to only writing papers and presenting at conferences in front of other scientists. Especially when politicians and other societal actors ignore the climate and ecological crisis, scientists must let their voices be heard widely and loudly. As scientists we are educated and trained to create and disseminate knowledge as well as to judge the work of other scientists, all with the ultimate goal of improving the world. The climate and ecological crises affect every aspect of society and we need knowledge from all fields to stop it, therefore scientists from all fields should unite to stand up for climate justice. Scientists are among the most trusted groups in society,[1] so when scientists join the climate movement, they lend it their credibility.[2],[3] As scientists we have the privilege to know, the duty to act.
Get involved
If you relate to our demands and core values, there are many ways to get involved with Scientist Rebellion. Beyond participating in actions, our movement is also a vibrant community where like-minded people connect, exchange ideas, and collaborate—both within and beyond their universities. Some contribute by organizing behind the scenes in one of our many groups, while others take part in actions. Even if you don’t want to or cannot engage in civil disobedience, you can still play a vital role by helping to organize, joining protests without direct action, writing letters or op-eds, or participating in book clubs or discussions where we envision sustainable and equitable futures.
Online Introduction Meeting
If you are interested in joining our movement, or just want to know more about our climate activism, join one of our online Introduction Meetings. These meetings are also a good place to get to know future fellow rebels.
Non-violent direct action training
Want to know more about civil disobedience action to potentially join us on the streets? Follow one of our NVDA trainings. If we do not have one scheduled soon or near you, you can also follow a training by Extinction Rebellion.
See our currently scheduled meetings, trainings and public actions.
Sign-up directly
You can sign up to join Scientist Rebellion by filling out this form. After filling this in we will contact you with more information. We also have local integrators who can meet you in person for a chat on how to become active within Scientist Rebellion.
