Celebrating the Paris Agreement with mixed feelings

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, Scientist Rebellion and Scientists for Future opened up the Climate Wiki for public use on 12 December. This took place with the presentation of the QR code for the Climate Wiki to Saskia Kluit (GroenLinks/PvdA), member of the Senate and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. This was followed by an online press conference on this topic, led by one of the compilers of the Climate Wiki, Dick van der Wateren.

Chair Arjen Markus: “On the one hand, it is gratifying that the Paris Agreement is still the global standard for climate policy, but on the other hand, we are increasingly concerned because the main goal of ‘Paris’, to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, is far from being achieved. Speakers Sander Otte (Delft University of Technology) and Gerben ter Riet (Amsterdam UMC) gave concrete expression to these concerns by listing some of the numerous consequences of further temperature rises, such as physical damage and mortality during heat waves and social disruption.

The Climate Wiki has been compiled by a large number of concerned scientists from Scientist Rebellion and Scientists for Future, with the aim of making the immense scientific knowledge about all aspects of climate change, its causes and consequences, publicly accessible. If one thing is clear from this knowledge, it is the enormous importance of combating the climate crisis more quickly and more forcefully. According to Rutger Schilpzand (SR), involved in the Climate Wiki.
