On 16 April, 44 activist shareholders from Scientist Rebellion and Extinction Rebellion attended the ForFarmers Annual General Meeting (AGM). This large, international animal feed company, headquartered in Lochem, produced 10.5 million tonnes of animal feed for farm animals in the Western European bio-industry in 2025. With a turnover of over \u20ac3 billion in 2025, it achieved a gross profit of over \u20ac600 million. 1<\/a><\/sup> Financially seemingly healthy, but ailing in every other respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We asked critical questions about various aspects of the company\u2019s operations and policy. We highlighted the persistently high CO\u2082 emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3, the virtually non-existent protection of biodiversity, the lack of climate justice in tropical countries where raw materials are grown, the dead-end of intensive livestock farming, the prioritisation of profits over genuine sustainability, the penalty payments relating to the biomass power station, and the lack of consideration for future generations. Towards the end of the AGM, we expressed our dissatisfaction by standing together in front of the stage wearing protest T-shirts.<\/p>\n\n\n

As expected, our questions were not answered, or only inadequately so. Expanding market share in the animal feed industry and the animal feed chain remains ForFarmers\u2019 top priority, and with it, increasing turnover and profits. This is at odds with national, European and global climate targets for the period 2030\u20132050. 2<\/a><\/sup> Livestock feed production relies on monocultures and thus on the loss of biodiversity, whereas the opposite is needed to preserve nature and pursue sustainability. 3<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As shareholders registered at the doors of a conference centre in Laren (Gelderland), they were greeted loudly by several dozen activists from Extinction Rebellion and Animal Rebellion, who, even after the event, clearly demanded attention for the climate and biodiversity crises.
