As scientists, we have been ringing the alarm bell<\/a> about the climate crisis for decades. But governments did not take our warnings seriously, and year after year, emissions continued to rise<\/a>. While governments are talking about “keeping 1.5\u00b0C alive”, they are still subsidising fossil fuels<\/a> and allowing oil and gas exploration around the world<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.5\u00b0C, then, is not alive. Instead, we are moving into uncharted and terrifying territory. \u201cAny further delay in concerted action\u201d, as the latest IPCC report<\/a> notes, \u201cwill miss a brief and rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all.\u201d We urge scientists from all disciplines to join the forefront of the climate movement and demand emergency action. We have no time to lose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
